THE A1 has reopened after a lorry spilled diesel and metal sheeting across the northbound carriageway this morning.
The incident between junctions 39 at Darrington and 40 at Knottingley around 7am caused traffic chaos around Pontefract.
A closure of the northbound carriageway was implemented to clear the debris and both lanes re-opened at 12.30pm.
A spokesman for the police said: “The call came in at 7.10am that a lorry had jackknifed and collided with the central reservation spilling diesel and metal sheeting over both lanes of the carriageway.
“The northbound carriage was fully blocked and a full closure was put in place with a diversion.”
Traffic was diverted at junction 39 onto the A639 into Pontefract and both lanes have now reopened.
