Central Methodist Church in Pontefract has been given a boost as it launches a food bank to help people in crisis across the town.
Yorkshire Building Society’s Pontefract branch has held a number of fundraising events to help the food bank get off the ground, with a raffle, tombola and book sale which raised more than £200.
Rev Jacob Kaiga, of Central Methodist Church, said: “We can’t thank them enough and together we are committed to serving our community and helping support those who need it the most.”
Two members of staff are also tackling a sponsored 41-mile walk from Scarborough to Whitby to raise more cash for the project. Branch manager Sarah Graham, pictured with Rev Kaiga, said: “In the current climate we are all feeling the pinch, but we want to find a way to do what we can to support those less fortunate in our community.”
