A child had to be rescued by the air ambulance after swimming in Clearies Quarry, in Normanton

A teenager had to rescued after he had been swimming in a disused quarry.

Emergency services were called to Clearies Quarry, off Newland Lane, Normanton, on Friday night after a youngster collapsed with suspected hypothermia.

Paramedics were unable to access the site with their equipment and the air ambulance was called.

Police said the youngster was taken to hospital as a precaution.
