Committed fundraiser Ann Waterton had a 50th birthday to remember when she laced up her hiking boots for charity.
Mrs Waterton is hoping to raise £1,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research after completing a 32 mile trek along the Inca Trail in Peru.
She took on the four-day trip after her losing her dad to cancer.
She said: “It was a totally amazing experience on every level.
“It was a real rollercoaster of emotions and experiences. I will never forget it.”
Mrs Waterton’s trip to Machu Picchu including climbing up to altitudes of up to 4,200m.
She said: “The trek was not easy, with rugged paths, steep inclines and declines, uneven ground and many steps to negotiate.
“But the scenery was extraordinary, from the contours of the mountain ranges and snow-capped peaks, to the forests.
“Reaching the peak of the Machu Picchu was emotional, knowing what we had achieved for the good causes we were there to represent and in memory of those we hold most dear.”
Yorkshire Cancer Research funds treatments and diagnosis projects across the region.
