Arsonists torched a 30-ton pile of wood at Queen’s Park in Airedale.

Firefighters were called to the scene just off Ferrybridge Road at around 8.30pm last night (Monday).

Crews from Castleford, Normanton and Garforth spent two hours dealing with the blaze.

Daryl Schofield, watch commander at Castleford, said the fire was the third arson attack in three days at the park.

He said: “There has been a series of fires in the park over the past few days and we do have an arson issue there.

“The last three fires have been extremely hard work and they are just a complete waste of time and resources.”

Anyone with any information about fires at the park should contact police on 101.
