A CASTLEFORD club has been presented with an award after raising £16,000 for Yorkshire Air Ambulance by holding an annual music festival.
George V WMC in Glass Houghton has raised the cash in the last four years from its annual Georgefest – an annual day-long rock music festival every summer, along with ongoing fundraising.
Mick Needham, management committee secretary, said: “It’s seven live bands, we put some food on, we have a raffle on the day, and all the funds we raise go to Yorkshire Air Ambulance. All the bands give their time free.
“All through the year we sell the air ambulance pens and badges as well, and every year we have a presentation night where air ambulance staff come in and pick up a cheque, and we raise more funds then too.”
The club won a Yorkshire Air Ambulance organisers and supporters award in its annual awards ceremony at Tankersley Manor where it was presented with a certificate, which has been framed and is now on display in the club.
