Kind-hearted sisters have donated baby clothes and blankets to a hospital in memory of their mum.

The women presented the items to the neonatal ward at Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield in honour of their mum Kathleen Harrison,of Half Acres in Castleford.

Mrs Harrison had requested that mourners at her funeral make donations to the special baby care unit instead of buying funeral flowers.

Her daughters, Dianne Hooper, Christine Kot, and Susan McLoughlin visited the ward last week to hand over the baby clothes and blankets, worth more than £160, bought with the donations.

Dianne said: “As a family we feel this is a fitting tribute from a wonderful lady who cared and loved everyone around her.”

Barbara Dean, ward sister, said: “This is such a lovely donation, speaking to her daughters it’s clear Mrs Harrison was a very special lady.

“Donations of blankets, bibs, hats, mittens and socks are always needed and are very welcome.”

The neonatal unit at Pinderfields Hospital provides specialist care for very premature or very ill newborn babies from across the Wakefield district and north Kirklees.

Mrs Harrison is survived by her husband Kenneth, five children, eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
