AIREDALE pupil Ben Evans rubbed shoulders with A-list stars after bagging a part in the blockbuster production of the novel Les Misérables.

The 17-year-old Airedale Academy pupil – who auditioned for the part in February – was whisked away to a manor house in Northampton to film alongside stars Helena Bonham Carter and Sacha Baron Cohen for two days last week.

Ben, of Fairfield Close, Castleford, said: “It was great, I was very nervous but everyone was very professional and hopefully I will make it into the final cut as we did a lot of takes.

“I was originally meant to be in the background but they asked me to be a family member. I had to ride in a carriage while Helena and Sacha hitched a ride on the back.”

Ben was scheduled to play the lead in the Crewe Road school’s sixth form production of The Chorus Line – showing at the school’s Phoenix Theatre – but the production had to be postponed until Wednesday and Thursday this week.

Tracey Bell, head of drama, said: “Ben has done amazingly well, beating off thousands of auditionees to get this fabulous opportunity and I am sure this will be the first of many successes.

“We have such a breadth of theatrical talent here at Airedale, I feel privileged to work with these young performers.”
