FIREFIGHTERS tackled a blaze at a former Pontefract hotel tonight.

Crews from Pontefract, Castleford, Knottingley, Featherstone and Normanton were called to reports of a fire at the town's former Parkside Hotel, on Park Road, at around 9pm.

A West Yorkshire Fire Service spokeswoman said around 75 per cent of the two-storey building was involved in the blaze and firefighters used two hose reels and a large jet to quell the flames.

Park Road is currently closed in both directions.
