A MOTORCYCLIST has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a smash on Southgate, Pontefract.
Police officers were called to a road traffic collision between a motorcycle and a Peugeot at around 10.20am today.
A spokeswoman for Yorkshire Air Ambulance confirmed they landed at Pontefract Racecourse to assist at the scene and airlifted the motorcyclist – who is believed to be in his 60s – to Pinderfields Hospital in Wakefield.
The driver of the Peugeot is assisting police with their enquiries.
Road closures are in place from the traffic lights on Southgate to Station Lane.
