More than 200 people attended the first Castleford Enterprise Show last week.
Businesses came together to build contacts and access support.
The event, in Henry Moore Square on Carlton Street, was organised by Castleford Town Centre Partnership and Wakefield Council.
John Munday, chairman of the town centre partnership, said: “We were really pleased with the turnout.
“At least half of the people who attended were business owners.
“Our aim was to signpost new and existing businesses to services, it was a very useful event.
“We made lots of new contacts and we are hoping to move from a board of directors to a membership model so we can work with local traders.”
Twenty organisations, including Leeds Metropolitan University, Castleford Heritage Trust and JobCentrePlus had stalls at the show.
Mr Mundy said: “There are a lot of opportunities in Castleford for businesses.
“Lots of start-ups just need the right support.
“The event was so successful that we are hoping to expand it across the Five Towns by next year.”
Castleford Enterprise Show is one of several events run in conjunction with Wakefield’s Business Support programme.
