FIVE Towns’ residents are being encouraged to tie up their boot laces and join this year’s Prince of Wales Hospice Memory Walk.
Staff at the Pontefract hospice hope the 10km sponsored walk – on Sunday March 11 – will attract more than 500 participants and raise around £15,000.
The event starts at Ackworth’s Beverley Arms pub, on Doncaster Road, at 10.30am with the route taking in countryside around Thorpe Audlin and Badsworth.
Helen Wells, hospice event fundraiser, said: “Everyone has their own reason for taking part in our memory walk, some walk in memory of a loved one and others simply want to get active and support their local charity.
“It costs £6,000 a day to keep the hospice running and we receive only a third of this from the NHS.
“I would encourage as many people as possible to sign up and help us to continue making a difference.”
The memory walk, sponsored by Oakworth Consultancy Service, has raised more than £64,000 in the past five years.
Entry costs £6.50 for adults and £3.50 for under 16s, and all entries must be received before Wednesday March 7. Everyone who completes the route will receive a special commemorative gift.
