Castleford Sea Cadets hope that moving to a new, bigger base will lead to more youngsters signing up and getting involved.

The group, who currently meet at the Holywell Lane Day Centre in the town, will move to The Active Centre in Airedale next month.

The cadets hope that the move will lead to more youngsters across the area sign up.

Lynda Horner, commanding officer, said: “The move means that we can get more children involved because we are restricted at the moment.

“The new base will be our own space and we can accommodate up to 50 children.”

Youngsters aged between ten and 17 are put of the group and work towards extra-curriculum qualifications.

The cadets also offer BTEC and other courses for youngsters.

Chief Petty Officer Horner said: “It’s really important for the kids to do stuff in addition to their school work.

“School has got to come first but the work they do at the cadets all goes on their CVs.”
