People from across the district are being encouraged to get the kettle on as Macmillan Cancer Support launches its annual World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.
The event, now in its 23rd year, will take place this year on Friday September 27, and the charity is appealing for groups, businesses and friends to get involved.
Lucy Kelvin, volunteer fundraiser, said: “Cancer affects not only those diagnosed, but family members, friends and colleagues too.
“It’s increasingly important for people to realise the difficulties for all those involved and the fact that Macmillan provides all-round support and services, emotionally, practically and financially.
“Witnessing a family member battle with cancer, I have been inspired to contribute to the efforts of Macmillan and inspire others. Every penny Macmillan raises through the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning really does ensure that no-one has to face the battle alone.”
Last year there were 928 coffee mornings across the Wakefield district which raised more than £100,000 for the charity.
As well as simple coffee mornings, fundraising events have included cocktail eveings, quiz nights and bake offs.
