PAST generations of youngsters taught at the Pontefract NEW College site are being invited to celebrate the building’s centenary.
Former staff, pupils and friends of the college – previously Pontefract Girls’ High School and Park High School – can share their memories on a special blog website, or take photos and memorabilia to the college where it will be displayed at a special celebration on October 6.
Julie Megson, the college’s centenary and fundraising co-ordinator, said: “The climax of our celebrations will take place in October when we are inviting people who have been involved with the college or the schools to come back and have a look around the college as it is today.
“There will be a range of events, including a sports day from 1911, reunion group champagne reception, exhibitions and archive material.
“There are lots of photos of former classes on our Facebook site and we are encouraging people to name the individuals in these photographs, they might be able to find their grandparents, relatives, or neighbours who would want to celebrate this wonderful occasion with us.”
The college has grown from 53 pupils starting at Pontefract Girls’ High School, to more than 1,000 students when it became the co-educational comprehensive Park High School in 1978.
In 1987, it became a sixth form college and now takes students from across the Five Towns.
