Council staff worked hard

A READER last week (Express Letters February 16) asks where were the gritters in the recent spate of severe weather.

I can tell you that the council was working round the clock over that very cold weekend to grit as many roads as possible across the district, working first on priority routes and then going into estates.

We closely monitor weather forecasts and plan our response accordingly so we can use our resources to keep the district moving and keep our roads as safe as possible.

During times of bad weather, we also urge people to take care, drive carefully and only make journeys when necessary.

We are grateful to all the people who took this advice, our snow wardens and town and parish councils who helped in their own communities and to all the good neighbours across the district who looked after each other over that difficult weekend.
