THE Express helped pave the way to a celebration set in stone for Pontefract’s Prince of Wales Hospice this week.
A paving stone bearing the Express’ name has been laid in the Halfpenny Lane hospice’s celebration courtyard in advance of its official opening later this month.
When the hospice was being built 25 years ago supporters took part in a ‘buy a brick campaign’ to help pay for the construction of the building.
In tribute to the scheme and as a way to celebrate the care and support the hospice provides to terminally ill people and their friends and families supporters have sponsored paving slabs in the courtyard, which have been engraved with names, tributes and messages.
Rebecca Whittington, Express content manager, said: “The Express was pleased to be able to sponsor a paving stone in the celebration courtyard. It is a beautiful and peaceful setting which can be enjoyed by patients, visitors and staff.
“The celebration courtyard is a wonderful way of paying a lasting tribute to loved ones and the work done by the hospice as well as helping to boost the charity coffers.”
Even after the official opening of the courtyard hospice supporters will still be able to sponsor stones for the area, which will be used by patients and visitors as a place to relax and reflect.
