Former darts champion Eric Bristow will visit Pontefract in January to help raise cash for the town’s Prince of Wales Hospice.

Mr Bristow, who won five world championships, will give a question and answer session and take on local darts players at the event at Pontefract Ex-Servicemen’s Club.

Andy Akrill, who runs the club with his wife Andrea, has organised the event.

He said: “The hospice is a really worthy cause and this is a chance to raise some much needed money for it. We’re hoping to raise at least £1,000

“We only took over the club recently and we want to make it into a hub for the community again.”

Preliminary qualifying events will be held before Mr Bristow – nicknamed the Crafty Cockney – comes to town on Friday, January 23.

Tickets for the event cost £10 and are available by calling Mr Akrill on 07825 81218 or Mrs Akrill on 07701 021167.

Details of the qualifying rounds, which cost £5 to enter, are yet to be confirmed.
