Teenager Emily-Grace Clifton was celebrating this week after gaining a place in the National Youth Orchestra (NYO).

Viola player Emily-Grace, 17, decided to audition for the NYO after joining the Yorkshire Young Musicians three years ago.

Emily-Grace, who studies music, maths and law at Pontefract’s NEW College is a member of the City of Leeds Youth Orchestra.

She said: “I am so excited. It will be a fantastic experience that I will remember for the rest of my life.

“A few of my friends auditioned last year and thoroughly enjoyed the experience so I decided to go for it this year.”

Emily-Grace will now perform with the NYO at three concerts across the country; Leeds Town Hall on January 4, London on January 5 and the proms next summer.

Pauline Hagen, principal at NEW College, said: “We’re all extremely proud of Emily-Grace’s achievement in gaining a place and of all her hard work.

“This is a fantastic opportunity for her.”
