IT’S time to get the kettle on and raise cash for Macmillan Cancer Support’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – and the Pontefract and Castleford Express will be joining in.
The Express staff will be baking cakes for their own coffee morning on Friday September 28 from 10am to noon to support the charity.
Julie Sambrook, acting editor, said: “The Express held its first Macmillan coffee morning last year, but this time we want to raise even more money for this worthwhile cause.
“We have some keen bakers here, so there will be plenty of delicious cakes to enjoy. We’re inviting everyone to come along and help us support Macmillan.”
Last year Macmillan made more than £10.8m, to help fund its therapists, nurses and support worker helping people living with cancer, from the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning – now in its 22nd year.
Maria Amos, fundraising manager for the Wakefield district, said: “Your readers always get behind this event, and we could not continue to provide much-needed services without them.
“Last year as a whole the Wakefield district raised £53,592, which is incredible, but £9,022 of that was raised in Pontefract and Castleford, so I’m hoping they will help us fill the coffee pot again.”
Macmillan needs people to join with friends, family or colleagues to put the kettle on and tuck into some tasty treats – from a coffee morning at work to an afternoon tea party with the girls or a bake-off competition.
