Detectives are appealing for witnesses after a motorist allegedly hit a man in Castleford then drove off.

Officers would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident on Wesley Street at about 4pm on December 21.

It occurred after a 30-year-old man was in collision with a dark coloured Audi car which then allegedly made off from the scene.

The victim was taken to Leeds General Infirmary with serious head injuries and is described as being in a serious but stable condition.

The driver of the vehicle, a 31-year-old man, was arrested later that day on suspicion of GBH in connection with the incident.

He has been bailed pending further enquiries.

DS Pete Whittam of Wakefield CID, said: “We are investigating this incident in which the driver failed to stop at the scene and are appealing for witnesses.

“The incident happened at a busy time of day in Castleford town centre and it is highly likely it would have been seen by a number of people.

“Anyone who saw what happened or has information about the collision id asked to contact Wakefield CID on 101 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
