A GENEROUS family has donated cash to the Pontefract and Castleford Talking Newspaper Association in memory of their mum.

The family of the late Joyce Senior of Townville gave £100 to the group, which makes digital recordings of the Pontefract and Castleford Express to send to blind and visually impaired people across the district.

The money was donated from a collection at Mrs Senior’s funeral last month.

Mary Tyler, the group’s administrative secretary, said: “Mrs Senior received our tapes a few years ago before we moved onto the digital system and her family has donated this money to recognise the importance of the service we provide.

“We are very much up and running now with digital recordings and have had lots of positive feedback from our listeners.

“The donation has contributed a new copying machine which means we can transfer the recorded articles to USB sticks a lot faster than before.”

Listeners are provided with special audio devices and receive a USB stick, which they send back at the end of the week.

Mrs Tyler added: “Donations such as this one mean we can supply the necessary equipment to more people who might benefit from our service. We’d like to thank Mrs Senior’s family for the donation.”
