The family of a Knottingley teenager who died last year will lace up their hiking boots later this month to raise money in his memory.

Mark Allan, 19, died last August from systemic lupus - a condition where the body’s immune system becomes hyperactive and attacks healthy tissue.

Almost a year on his family will take on a charity walk from Robin Hoods Bay to Whitby on July 18, which would have been Mark’s 20th birthday.

His dad Mark will go the extra miles by walking from Dewsbury Hospital, where his son died, to Whitby Abbey, which was one of Mark’s favourite places.

The family is raising money for the Lupus UK charity.

Clare Lee, Mark’s cousin, said: “Mark’s death was really sudden.

“He had a cold and the next thing he was in intensive care.

“We are hoping to raise awareness of the illness and raise as much money as we can for the charity.

“The main reason we are doing it is in Mark’s memory.”
