Preparations are under way for Pontefract Prince of Wales Hospice’s 25th anniversary family festival later this month.

The Halfpenny Lane hospice has teamed up with Featherstone Rovers to host the event at the club’s Big Fellas Stadium, on Saturday August 23.

The event will feature a food court, inflatable rides and the Paws on the Pitch dog show on the club’s training pitch.

Rovers’ star Andy Ellis said: “I am very proud to be involved with such a worthwhile charity on behalf of the club and I hope as many fans as possible come down and support the hospice.”

Rovers has been working with the hospice throughout the anniversary celebrations, offering free use of its Post Office Road facilities.

Darren Payne, operations manager, said: “It is very important for the club to be involved with such a cause which is so local and I would urge all who can make it to join in on the day to raise as much money as possible.”

Amanda Jubb, hospice assistant fundraiser, said: “It is great that all our local sporting teams provide their support to us on an ongoing basis and it’s fantastic that they see us as an essential service in the Five Towns area.

“Without the support of everyone we wouldn’t be able to provide a high level of patient and family support at such a difficult time.”

The festival will run from 11am to 4pm. Entry to the event costs £3 for adults and £1 for under 16s.

Entry to Paws on the Pitch costs £8 and is available in advance from the hospice, any of its shops or online at www.pwh.org.uk/events
