DOCTORS across the Five Towns are encouraging people to be prepared for the festive season.

GP practices will be open as normal on Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, but health bosses are warning people to make sure they have enough medication to see them through the two bank holiday –particularly as many GP surgeries require 48 hours’ notice for repeat prescriptions.

Dr Phil Earnshaw, chairman of Wakefield Clinicial Commissioning Group, said: “If you need regular medication from your GP put your prescription in as soon as you can. Keeping a well-stocked medicine cabinet will also help treat minor health complaints.”

When GP surgeries are closed, health advice is still available by calling the West Yorkshire Urgent Care Service on 0345 605 9999.
