Police officers in Castleford have been united with firefighters in the town.

Officers from the Castleford neighbourhood policing team (NPT) have moved into Castleford Fire Station, on Beancroft Road.

The helpdesk at Castleford police station, on Jessop Street will remain open.

The move follows Pontefract NPT moving into the fire station on Stumpcross Lane last April.

Ch Supt Andy Battle, divisional commander for the Wakefield district, said: “The moves of NPT staff to fire stations in Pontefract and now in Castleford are real examples of how emergency services are working together to cut costs and ensure we remain local and visible in the hearts of communities.

“Castleford NPT officers will be patrolling from the fire station and on their beats as normal, while the helpdesk at the current Castleford Police Station will remain open for residents to report crime.”

The fire station has been refurbished to accommodate the police officers.

West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service district commander of Wakefield Martin Langan said the move will make services more effective and efficient.
