Fire crews tackle blaze at Castleford allotments

Firefighters from three stations tackled a blaze at allotments in Castleford.

Crews from Normanton and Castleford were called to the site in Lumley Hill at around 6.45pm last night (Friday).

Several sheds were destroyed before the fire was brought under control.

Firefighters from Pontefract continued to monitor the site after taking over at 8.15pm.

A spokesman said: “There was quite a lot of damage. A number of sheds were destroyed unfortunately, but they were able to stop it spreading.”
