Fantastic floral displays have won gold for Kippax in the annual Yorkshire in Bloom competition for the second year running.
Kippax was category winner in the urban community class, taking a Gold award, which was announced last week.
Pat Samy, chairman of Kippax in Bloom, said: “It’s amazing, and really good considering all the bad weather we had at the start of the year, and we were judged quite early.
Kippax in Bloom volunteers worked with the village’s parish council, The Growing Zone and Kippax North J&I School, as well as local cubs and scouts groups to create colourful floral displays around the village.
Yorkshire in Bloom judges praised the community for transforming from “its mining heritage to a very green and pleasant village”.
Pat said: “I think as time has gone on people are more aware of the ethos of In Bloom and are getting more involved, even down to people keeping their front gardens looking good.
“We have the most amazing volunteers and it shows that we have the support of the community, or else we wouldn’t have done so well otherwise.”
