THERE was fun for all ages at two special picnics in Pontefract to mark National Family Week.
Youngsters and their mums and dads took part in Orchard Head Children’s Centre’s picnic at The Barracks sports field on Tuesday and a similar event organised by Orchard Head, Sycamores and Pomfret Children’s Centres in Pontefract Park yesterday.
Elaine Armstrong, Orchard Head Children’s Centre manager, said: “National Family Week is the largest celebration of families and family life in the UK.
“This year more than 6,000 family-friendly events and activities will take place across the country during the week and we are proud to be part of this initiative.
“The children’s centres offered a fun-packed free day out – we provided activities for children aged up to eight – all we asked was that families bring their own picnics.”
Events have also been organised by Airedale, Ferry Fryston, Townville and Fryston Neighbourhood Management, including family walks, crafts, a safety day and medieval food day.
Wakefield Council organised events include craft activities, photography competitions, family picnics and free swimming sessions. Visit www.wakefield.gov.uk/HomePage/infocus/NFW.htm for details.
