A former Pontefract NEW College student will return to the town next month to host a fundraising choir concert.

George Edwards will bring his University of London Chamber Choir to St Giles’ Church on Saturday, March 29 to raise funds for the choir’s summer tour to Malta.

Mr Edwards said: “I owe a great deal to Pontefract for my musical education.

“I spent much of my spare tie making music at school and through the Wakefield Music Service, Ackworth Youth Choir, local band nights and as a chorister at St Giles’ Church.

“I’m really looking forward to sharing the choir’s music with my friends and family back home.”

Mr Edwards left Pontefract in 2010 to study government at the London School of Economics.

The choir is conducted by Dr Colin Durrant and performs wide variety of music.

Songs by composers including Elgar, Ravel, Naylor and Walton will be in the programme at St Giles.

The concert starts at 7.30pm and tickets cost £8 for adults or £4 for students.

They can be bought from St Giles, on Market Place, in advance or on the door on the night.
