Cyclists are being encouraged to get in gear and sign up for an event next week to raise money for Pontefract’s Prince of Wales Hospice.

This year’s Prince of Wales Cyclothon event takes place Sunday, May 19 at Pontefract Park.

The event, which started 18 years ago, has raised more than £250,000 for the Halfpenny Lane hospice.

Tom Cowie, hospice event fundraiser, said: “We are really excited that this year’s Cyclothon is going to be bigger and better than ever.

“This year we’re celebrating 18 years of Cyclothon and introducing our new events village as part of the celebrations. “

The event has three routes of 20, 45 and 60 miles which span across the Five Towns.

There will also be a new new Go-Ride zone for the first time.

This area will provide fun for all the family and aim to introduce young people to the sport of cycling.

Mr Cowie said: “There will be plenty of fun for everyone, as well as the serious business of the sportive itself.”

Organisers hope the day will raise £30,000.

The deadline for entries is on Monday (May 13).
