MORE than 1,000 people are already on their marks for the Wakefield 10k.

Organisers Wakefield Hospice are hoping to double that figure before the starter pistol sounds at 9am on Sunday, April 3 on Lawefield Lane.

The event, which takes in Thornes and Clarence Parks, will see individual, team and 1km fun runners take part.

The team challenge is being embraced by employees and race sponsors Richard Kendall and Beaumont Legal who are encouraging other local companies to enter a team. The sponsors’ teams were put through their paces by training company Totally Runable, which was co-founded by personal trainer Natalie Jackson and former Olympic athlete Emily Kaye Freeman led a one-hour training session at Thornes Park Athletics track.

NatalieJackson said:“The session was designed to give the teams something to think about in terms of their mindset, as well as their physical fitness.”

Francesca Berry, from Beaumont’s said: “The session was fun and friendly, as well as informative. Emily and Natalie were very encouraging and great to work with. It also helped me to think outside the box, I picked up some tips I will definitely use in the run in April such as importance of posture. I really enjoyed it.”

Every runner who signs up for the race will receive a training plan from Totally Runable, who will continue to work with the two sponsors’ teams.

Event fundraiser Holli Kellett, said: “If you’re not confident about running alone, or you want to encourage other people to take part, the team entry is a great option. It is great to see teams supporting each other through training and on race day.

“Fundraising as a team can raise even more, which makes a huge difference to the patients and families supported at the hospice.”
