It’s finally here, the votes are in and we can announce the winner of the Wakefield Express Gym of the Year 2016.

Since January we have asked you to vote for who you thought should be given the coveted crown of the best gym in the area. We wanted you to take into consideration what it was that you thought gave your gym the edge, what lifted it above its rivals and gave you what you wanted.

We’ve had hundreds of votes registered for the gyms that featured in the top 10. But in the end there could be only one winner – A Star Muscle and Fitness of Thornes Lane.

Joint owner Keith Brook, 37, said: “With the amount of gyms in Wakefield, we really didn’t expect to win but we are absolutely buzzing. It is like a big fit family down here and we are on first name terms with our members, which you don’t get at other places. We want to say a big thank you to them for voting for us.”

In second place came Wakefield Crossfit, of the Millenia Park Industrial Estate on Thornes Road, and in third place came The Works Fitness at Sandal Rugby Club on Standbridge Lane.

Co-owner of Wakefield Crossfit Dave Young, 31, said: “We just want to say thank you to everyone who voted for us, we really appreciate it.” He added that members voted for them because they are “motivating and encourage people to lead a good lifestyle.”
