Hard choices on the cards

IN response to concerns raised on the Express letters’ pages during recent weeks regarding levels of investment across the district, I would like to re-iterate that Wakefield Council will have to make some tough decisions about the services it provides over coming years.

The reality is that as a result of the multi-million pound cuts to our budget made by the Conservative-led government, we have to find ways of saving £65m over the next four years. This will mean that as a council, we have no choice but to do things differently.

However, I can assure readers that despite these vicious cuts, we will carry on achieving. We will aim to provide high quality services more efficiently, we will continue protect the most vulnerable of this district and maintain and protect the local environment and we will work with community groups and residents to ensure that local services are adapted to meet local needs.
