QUICK-thinking firefighters leapt into action to rescue a horse which was stuck in a ditch.
A crew from Knottingley fire station was called to the town’s Stocking Lane at 8.24am last Saturday, where the animal had been trapped overnight.
A vet was called to sedate the 500-kilo creature and firefighters used straps to pull it up from a pool of mud.
Using a resident’s agricultural forklift truck, the horse was then lifted to safety.
The rescue – which involved 11 firefighters – lasted three hours
