FORMER boxing heavy weight champion Mike Tyson was a knockout with fans who flocked to a Pontefract nightclub to see him talk about his colourful life and career.
Iron Mike stopped off at Silk’s Nightclub, on Beastfair, on the last leg of his UK tour to answer questions from the audience and interviewer Jed Stone.
The Express spoke to Mike – who has just finished performing his sell-out show, Mike Tyson: The Undisputed Truth, in Las Vegas – about his trip to Pontefract and boxing tips from his glory days in the ring.
He said: “At these events I talk about my life and everything to do with my boxing career – one tip for landing a good punch I’d have to say would be leverage.
“I hope to be able to bring my one-man show I performed in Vegas to the West End because it was very well-received in America.
“I always love coming to the UK and it is pretty awesome to be here in Pontefract to meet all the real people.”
More than 450 revellers turned out to the event on Wednesday April 25 – organised by Sports Media Promotions in Castleford – which also hosted an auction of memorabilia and a raffle to win a boxing glove signed by Tyson.
Tony Dunn, who organised the event, said: “Mike was really friendly and different to how people expected him to be. It was a great night and everyone enjoyed seeing him and his wife Kiki at the event. We think he will be returning to the UK in October.”
