Castleford singer Jack Walton breezed through to the next round of the X Factor after wowing judges on the ITV talent show.
The 17-year-old former Castleford Academy pupil got four ‘yes’ votes after impressing with his singing and acoustic guitar playing.
The youngster performed an acoustic version of Waves by Mr Probz during his audition, screened on Saturday night’s show.
Jack, of Aketon Road, said: “It’s all been a bit crazy to be honest. It was really nerve wracking but amazing at the same time.
“I got some really good feedback from all the judges, which is great.”
Jack, who has been performing across the area for two years, first started singing while at primary school.
He said:“It all started when I was about eight and I sang in a karaoke competition at Xscape.
“It was quite a big competition with adults as well and I finished fourth.
“Then when I was in year seven I won a talent competition at school called the Cas Factor.
“So you could say I’ve gone from Cas Factor to the X Factor.”
Jack, who grew up in Half Acres and Townville, thanked his fans for their support.
He added: “I’m putting everything into it. I started at NEW College after I left high school but music took over.
“I was missing lessons and they basically asked me if I wanted to pursue my music and I made the decision to leave.
“It was a risk but I knew what I wanted to do all the way through.”
Jack, who also writes his songs, hopes to release his first EP within the next fortnight.
He added: “I am Cas through and through. “I love Castleford and just want to help put the town on map and do people in Cas proud.”
After impressing judges Simon Cowell, Cheryl Fernandez-Versini, Mel B and Louis Walsh on Saturday night’s show, he will now perform in front of an audience at the SSE Arena, Wembley.
After his audition Cheryl told him: “You played it fantastically. You have a real grit to your voice that you don’t use as much as you should because it’s sexy and it’s good.”
Former Spice Girl Mel B said: “You’ve got confidence and you know exactly what you’re doing and you’ve just got it.”
Louis Walsh: “It’s great to have someone who actually knows what they are, who loves music and has got potential.”
