A man who sexually abused a teenage girl has been jailed for three years.

Abdul Shakoor, 45, of Fieldhouse Street, Wakefield was sentenced at Leeds Crown Court on Friday, November 18 after being found guilty of 11 sexual offences against a child.

Police began to investigate after the girl came forward in 2014 to say she had been the victim of sexual offences on five occasions between 2010 and 2014.

Shakoor was charged last year and has since being going through the courts.

Speaking after the case, DCI Sue Jenkinson of Wakefield District Police, said: “We welcome the conviction of Shakoor for a number of offences committed against a young and vulnerable victim.

“He took advantage of his victim and subjected her to sustained abuse over a considerable period of time.

“I wish to commend her courage in coming forwards and in supporting the prosecution against Shakoor throughout

“All reports of sexual offences are treated very seriously and will be fully investigated. We can also promise victims they will be dealt with by specially trained officers who will always put their needs at the heart of enquiries.”
