Knottingley Silver Band will compete in the National Brass Band Championships after finishing second in a regional competition.
The band, which has 28 members aged 15 to 70, came second in the Yorkshire Regional Brass Band Championships in Bradford earlier this month.
It will now go on to compete against bands from across the country in the national finals in Cheltenham, in September.
Kath Woods, band secretary, said: “We’re really looking forward to competing in the finals.
“The success in the Yorkshire heat has given us a real boost and we are fairly confident of doing well.”
The longest-serving member of the band, Trevor Lloyd, celebrated his 70th birthday on March 2 – the day of the Yorkshire competition.
It was the 58th regional contest he had taken part in and he was presented with the band’s runner-up trophy.
The band, which meets at Knottingley Club at Hill Top, on Monday and Thursday from 8pm to 10pm, is looking to recruit new members.
