Let us never forget: Remembrance services to remember the fallen

CHURCH SERVICES and remembrance events are being held to commemorate fallen soldiers.

Chelsea Pensioners will join a Remembrance Day parade in Pontefract from 10.45am on Sunday. The pensioners will march to the war memorial for the last post, two minutes’ silence and wreath laying at 11am.

They will then march back through the town to St Giles Church for a service.

The Featherstone Armistice Day service will take place at the War Memorial Gardens at 11am tomorrow. A Remembrance Day parade will start at the Featherstone Hotel at 10.45am on Sunday before a service at the War Memorial Gardens.

The parade will then move to the St Thomas Road War Memorial.

A parade will leave South Elmsall United Services Club, on Chapel Lane, at 10.30am on Sunday, arriving at the cenotaph at 11am.

Services in Kippax will take place at St Mary’s Church and Kippax Methodist Church at 10.30am. A procession will meet in the methodist church car park at 11.45am before wreath laying at the war memorial at noon.

A parade will leave Hemsworth Community Centre at 9.30am to march to St Helen’s Church for a service at 10am, then back to cenotaph for around 11.20am.

In Ryhill a Remembrance Sunday service will be held at St James Church at 10am, followed by the calling of the Roll of Honour at the War Memorial at approximately 11am.

In Knottingley a service will he held on Sunday 10.45am at the Cenotaph, St Botolphs, on Chapel Street. Refreshments will be served after the service at Knottingley Town Hall.

In Castleford, there will be a short service followed by a two minute’s silence at the Cenotaph, beginning at 10.45am.

There will then be a parade toST Michael’s Church for another service followed by a procession back.

the Royal birtish Legion will then host live music, refreshments and a raffle. The deputy Lord Lieutenant will attend the commemorations.
