Children flocked to Queen’s Mill on Saturday to enjoy a winter wonderland as it was transformed to play host to Santa.
Volunteers had decorated the mill’s 14 flour grinding stones and decked out the first two floors of the Aire Street building to create a festive treat for townsfolk, as Santa arrived in a police van to hand out presents to youngsters.
Alison Drake, chairman of Castleford Heritage Trust, said: “It went extremely well, everybody, all the volunteers and helpers had worked very hard, they really went to town to decorate the mill and it looked amazing.
“I really want to thank the volunteers, committee and trustees for all their work, and for the support of the community for this project, we can’t do it without them.”
The event also saw the official opening of a new tourist information centre, cafe and kitchen by Wakefield Council deputy leader Coun Denise Jeffery.
Alison added: “We’re particularly proud to have opened the new tourist information and cafe. It’s a really exciting new venture for the mill.”
