Committed fundraisers braved the rain to help raise cash for Pontefract’s Prince of Wales Hospice at a family fun day last weekend.

The hospice, which opened in November 1989, teamed up with Featherstone Rovers to host the event at the club’s Big Fellas Stadium on Saturday.

The event featured a food court, inflatable rides and the Paws on the Pitch dog show on the club’s training pitch.

Emma Priestley, hospice events fundraiser, said: “We had brilliant support from everyone who braved the weather to come and support us.

“But given the rain, and the fact Castleford Tigers were playing at Wembley, we didn’t have that many people turn up.

“The Paws on the Pitch dog competition went really well and everyone who came down seemed to enjoy themselves.”

Rovers has been working with the hospice throughout the anniversary celebrations, offering free use of its Post Office Road facilities.
