They staged a community fundraising day, which involved volunteers completing a mile each on a cross trainer or rowing machine. Every mile equalled one bag of donated stock.

The shop received 241 bags of items to sell, equalling the amount of miles clocked up by volunteers.

The shop on Salter Row also held a raffle which included prizes such as golfing days, photoshoots and pet vouchers. These were all donated by local businesses and it helped them to raise an additional £368.

Pontefract BHF shop manager Shelley Fox said: “We have really enjoyed holding our mile a bag event at the shop last Saturday. We saw an amazing response from local people who came out to support us, donating lots of items to the shop and taking part in our other activities like the raffle.”

BHF offers a wide range of goods including clothes, DVDs and books. Each year, they raise around £30 million to help the foundation to fight coronary heart disease.
