Cash-strapped families across the Five Towns can get help planning their finances thanks to a free course set up by church leaders.

Pontefract’s Methodist churches have teamed up with the charity Christians Against Poverty (CAP) to offer a three week budgeting course.

The course will start at Central Methodist Church, on Newgate, later this month.

Jane Marshall, scheme co-ordinator, said: “We feel there is a need for the course and we know of people who are in very difficult circumstances.

“As the food bank work at the church has begun we have become more aware of people who are really struggling.

“The course isn’t just for those who use our food bank, it is free financial advice for anyone who would like it.”

CAP has been running the courses across the country since 2008 but this will be the first of its kind in the Five Towns.

Mrs Marshall added: “We’ve had a really positive response not just from people we know but when we have been out and about telling people about the course.”

The course starts at the church at 2.30pm on January 26 and will run for the following two Sundays from 2pm to 4pm.

To register for the course visit www.capmoneycourse.org or call 07523 941881.
