An indoor cricket team at Pontefract NEW College have been crowned the best in the country.
The team of seven students beat Bourneville College in Birmingham to take the top spot at the national finals and receive the national indoor cricket trophy.
It was a thrilling game for players Callum Honeyman, Connor Fisher, Connor Harvey, Matt Boucher, Eli Shaw, Jordan Mills and Brad Green, who beat their opponents off the last ball.
Leon Sacks, sports teacher, said: “The most pleasing facet throughout the tournament was that all seven players contributed at different times with bat, ball and exceptional fielding, captained by Connor Harvey, to get us over the winning line.
“This is a fantastic achievement for the lads.
“I am immensely proud of them and the attitude they display both on and off the pitch will stand them in good stead for later life.”
