A man fired a crossbow at a pensioner during a failed robbery attempt.
The 73-year-old pensioner was in his garden of his home on Lawefield Lane, close to Wakefield city centre, on Friday at about 1.20pm.
The man asked him for money and threatened him with the crossbow before firing a bolt at him.
Police said the pensioner was not seriously hurt.
A 40-year-old man was later arrested after being detained by the pensioner’s neighbours and other people who came to help.
He is currently in custody.
A police spokesperson thanked both the pensioner and the members of the public for their help.
