Sherry, singing and a card from the Queen helped along the celebrations for Lily Moon’s 108th birthday.
Mrs Moon’s landmark day was also shared by members of her family and the mayor of Wakefield, Coun Janet Holmes, who joined her for sherry at The Grove nursing home, Knottingley, last Friday.
Mrs Moon has lived in Knottingley all her life. She was born in the former Beckett’s Yard and then lived on Broomhill Avenue for many years with her late husband Tom, who she married in 1929.
After leaving school, she worked at Bagley’s glassworks, and also did cleaning and ironing work. In her younger days she enjoyed singing, dancing and listening to music.
She has a son, one granddaughter, two great granddaughters and two great great granddaughters.
