Intrepid members of 1st Ackworth Boys’ Brigade are trying to raise £15,000 to help children living in poverty in Kenya.
The brigade is holding a range of events from race nights to bag packs to help fund a trip to work with the Isaiah Trust in Kenya’s third largest city, Kisumu, in October.
The trust aims to help children with education, training and rehabilitation.
Matthew Price, one of the brigade’s senior boys, said: “We first became aware of the Isaiah Trust’s work through a Lent fundraising activity last year. The trust came to speak to us about their work and the boys were so moved by what they saw it was decided we would like to help more and actually visit Kenya.
“We want to leave something valuable to benefit the children in Kenya and we’re trying to raise £1,500 to buy a water tank for the trust’s farm, as well as football kit forthe children.
“We would love to hear from any local businesses that can help with our efforts.”
A fundraising brass band concert featuring Knottingley Concert Brass takes place on Saturday March 29 at Central Methodist Church in Pontefract at at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £7 for adults and £3 for children in education.
