Sisters Rachael Parkin and Susie Webb – and their friend Ellie Wood – are hoping make 2014 a year to remember by raising thousands of pounds for charity.

The group - who’ve called themselves the Yorkshire Girls - have already signed up for two charity runs as well as organising a number of fundraising events in the new year.

They hope to raise £3,000 for Yorkshire Cancer Research.

Rachael Parkin, 32, said: “We were thinking of doing something together next year, maybe a hobby.

“Then myself and Ellie said we should do something for charity.

“We’ve lost family and friends to cancer so that’s why we chose Yorkshire Cancer Research.”

The first event of the year will be a baking competition held in Wakefield on March 1 and two concerts have also been arranged for next summer.

Susie, 21, has signed up for the Leeds 10k and the Leeds Half Marathon to boost funds.

Mrs Parkin said: “I never really expected everything to be so far on already.

“It’s all down to Twitter and the internet really.

“We’ve got a signed dictionary from Rachel Riley on Countdown for a raffle prize, which is amazing.”

The group have also planned a Yorkshire’s Got Talent contest in July and August.
