Last chance to have your say on Aldi plans

Members of the community have just over a week left to have their say on plans for a new Aldi store in South Elmsall.

The discount supermarket announced proposals to open a store at the former fire station site on Barnsley Road.

A newsletter was sent out to people living in the area outlining the development plans and people were invited to give feedback via a free-post card attached to the letter.

Aldi said the store would create 50 new jobs and hopes it will attract more footfall to the town centre.

South Elmsall and South Kirkby councillors Steve Tulley and Wilf Benson said the store would be a welcome “asset” to the community.

Coun Tulley said: “People have said that they are screaming out for a low cost supermarket in the community.”

Coun Benson added: “It will improve economic growth in the town and will not be out of place in a fast growing community.”
